Everything he touches turns to gold
Born on 14th June 1946, in New York, Donald’s father Fred Trump was a successful real estate property developer and was the main influence behind his son’s business acumen. Donald is not averse to acknowledging the part his father played in his success and says “…My father was my mentor, and I learned a tremendous amount about every aspect of the construction industry from him.” He studiedbusiness at the Wharton Business School and worked for his father for five years where he learned the real estate business. He made sound business decisions right from the start which made his father comment “Everything he touches turns to gold”. Once he was ready to start out on his own Donald decided to enter the Manhattan real estate market where once again he was a success. Although Donald did not have money of his own, his self confidence and his awesome skills at negotiating allowed him to become a member of the exclusive Manhattan Club which is an elite only club.
Successful Real Estate Developer
He was voted by his classmates at the New York Military Academy in 1964 as the class “Ladies Man”. He is quite fond of women and can be regularly seen with beautiful women. Donald trump was twice married and twice divorced with 4 children from both marriages. Instead of making use of his new status to go sailing or playing Polo and be seen as a jetsetter, Donald made use of his contacts to build his empire and came to be known as one of the best and most successful businessmen during the 80’s and 90’s. It was at this time he acquired some of the best real estate property in the city which are called Trump Tower, Trump Casino, Trump Taj Mahal, Trump Marina Hotel, among many other prestigious properties. One of his trademarks is displaying the Trump name very prominently on all his building with a larger than life letter “T” placed on all sides of the building. His wealth and fame has made him into a cult personality and he’s now recognized as a celebrity that appears in many TV programs, magazines and gossip columns.
Acquiring Celebrity Status
Donald Trump’s very own reality TV program, that started in 2004 gave him even more visibility and ‘Apprentice’ became an instant hit and one of the most watched programs the world over with his famous words “You’re Fired” becoming famous everywhere the series was aired. He’s also an affiliate of popular shows such as the “Miss Universe Pageant” and ran for presidency in 2000 but admitted later on that he didn’t have it in him to become president. His practice of going against the norm by lowering prices has always proved a success. The only mistake he made was in the 1990’s when he filed for bankruptcy for defaulting on $2 billion in loans. He did however manage to overcome his financial difficulties and make a comeback which he wrote about in his book “The Art of the Comeback”
Donald John Trump is definitely a successful businessman, yet an enigma. He never drinks alcohol although he markets it. He doesn’t carry a briefcase and he never shakes hands because it’s said that he has a morbid fear of it. But he is a generous philanthropist and never hesitates to donate to charities he thinks deserves help.
